Assistive Technologies
Assistive technologies include assistive, adaptive or rehabilitative devices to help people perform tasks during their rehabilitation, or to help them do tasks they were unable to do before.
We can perform in-clinic, home or work-site evaluations to identify functional barriers, then provide recommend ations for adaptations or modifications. We also evaluate needs in the areas of computer access, environmental control, communication, mobility, recreation and independent living. To go with this, we’ll research alternative methods and resources, calling on local and national resources.
How Assistive Technologies Can Help
Our service always starts with a comprehensive evaluation of functional abilities, which leads to a plan for increased independence. This can include:
Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s)
- Self Care
- Home management activities
- Reading and writing
- Home accessibility/safety
- Hand function & dexterity
Mobility
Evaluate needs and provide prescriptions for specific equipment such as manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and scooters
Work/School
Evaluate needs for equipment or modifications, including seating, computer workstations, and ergonomic equipment and tools
Computer Access
Provide evaluation and training in use of alternative and one handed keyboards, voice recognition and alternate mouse controls
