Jim was born and raised in the Spokane Valley where he graduated from West Valley High School before heading off to Washington State University. After graduating from WSU in 1975, he pursued his physical therapy education from the Mayo School of Health Related Sciences. After obtaining his degree from the Mayo Clinic, he and his wife Cheryl moved back to the Spokane area. Jim began his career as a hospital and home health physical therapist before moving into private practice in 1980.

Jim began specializing in hand therapy at that time and continued his education and training in this field, eventually obtaining his specialized certification when it was first offered in 1991.

Although Jim’s primary interests and practice remains in hand and upper extremity conditions, he began applying his treatment regimes to the workplace injuries and illnesses. This eventually led to his certification in ergonomics in 2003. He utilizes management of upper extremity musculoskeletal injuries as it relates to industrial and office environments. Jim also is certified in performing functional capacity evaluations, job site assessments and fitness for duty tests.

Jim and his wife have raised three children who fortunately all live in the Spokane area. Their son Zachary joined Summit Rehab in 2007 to begin his career in physical therapy.

Jim enjoys many outdoor activities that include snow skiing and water sports at the family lake cabin. His family has recently expanded to 7 grandchildren who he is grooming to become the next ardent Coug fans!
